Splitting Apart is hexagram 23 in the Book of Changes (剝, Bō).

Hexagram 23

The judgement

It is hexagram 23 of the I Ching, formed by the Earth trigram below and the Mountain one above: six lines, three for each trigram. Splitting Apart is the mountain pressing the earth: erosion, taking away, decline. This is not a time to advance. The fruits fall.

What it means today

Something is coming apart. Do not reglue it by force. Protect the core, let go the layers that no longer hold, remain whole in withdrawal.

Classic image

Mountain on the earth. Whoever stands above, with breadth, gives rest to the house.

Love

In love a cycle is thinning. Do not plead. Reduce the damage, honor what was, do not stay under a landslide.

Work

At work, cut dead projects. Attachment to what is splitting costs more than mourning.

Relationships

In relationships, accept a structural cooling. Not every detachment is a betrayal.

Decisions

Do not launch, do not invest in the large. The decision is defensive: save the seed.
